Family and Friends

All my immediate family are younger than I am! I have two sons, a daughter-in-law, two granddaughters, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and their children. My sons, both in their late 40s, are in the picture below.

Simon and Andrew in Arizona

This was taken when Simon and Andrew flew to Arizona for a golfing weekend, using some air miles. Simon (49) is on the right, Andrew (47) on the left. Andrew is married with two daughters; Simon has a partner who has two daughters of similar ages.

I am very fortunate to have many warm, unbroken friendships; from school, college, work, Little Aden, my 43 years here in New Milton, teaching, a year in Australia, and from the organisations, societies and clubs I have joined. The creator of the Little Aden website, which has some excellent photos, is happy for me to link it here.

I love to maintain contact with people, preferably in person, but otherwise with e-mail, fast and clear telephone links as well as letters sent through the post. I used to love to write but using the computer makes the content much easier to read. I love the way that, even when I have not seen a friend for some time, we can meet and talk again as if it were only yesterday.

5W - Women Welcome Women World Wide

On a walking holiday I met Enid, who recommended that I join what was then (about 1988) Women Welcome Women. Through this excellent organisation, I met Marion, from Brisbane, whose link this is. Marion visits Europe every two years and includes a visit here to me in her itinerary. It was lovely to see her at the end of May this year and I hope to be calling in on her in October 2010.

I love the way things work sometimes. In Australia I got to know another teacher, whose sister lives near Salisbury. The latter’s son was studying Russian and was going to St Petersburgh  to stay with a Russian boy, whose mother was fluent in English and worked as a translator. A friend of hers, also fluent in English wondered if this English boy’s mother knew a woman who would like to invite her to visit England. And that is how I met Tamara, who came here; then I visited her. As life became more open to the West, her husband, an expert in Forea Transformations (whatever they are) obtained a job in Szeczin in Poland. I visited them twice there. Very sad to say, Tamara died at the age of 60 some years ago but I am glad I knew her.
